What is the HMRC?

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs is commonly known as HMRC or HM Revenue & Customs.  It is the UK’s government department that deals with taxes, some of the state support payments and they also regulate things like the national minimum wage.

What kind of services do the HMRC provide?

The HMRC have numerous departments that provide many government services.  When contacting the HMRC, specify which service your query is about.

Child Benefit

Get support with Child Benefit if you have children or are responsible for a child.  Only one person can claim Child Benefit for a child and this is usually the primary carer.  If you are entitled to Child Benefit, then give them a ring on 0845 257 8498 and we will forward your call to their customer services.

The child needs to be under 16 years old or under 20 if they are in full-time education.

Child Tax Credits

How do I get in touch with the HMRC?

The best time to call the HMRC is before 10am Monday to Friday.  

The customer services at the HMRC are excellent and can quickly direct your call to the right department.  It will save you time, if you are prepared before you to speak to the HMRC.  You will need to go through a security check, so have your personal ID details ready.  In addition, make sure you have all the correct documents you wish to reference or that have your figures on for tax.  Once the advisor has all you details, they will help you with your query.
